Beach trip
The team traditionally schedules a day trip to Rehoboth on the Monday before Divisionals – this year’s trip is on July 19th. The team hires a bus and team members and their family may reserve seats on the bus. Reservations will open up about 3 weeks before the trip.
Details
The trip is for swim and dive team members and their families. Friends may also go along, but may not register for the trip until July 13th, to give priority to team members.
The trip is not chaperoned by the coaches or any other adults. Each child who is 12 or under must be accompanied by a chaperone who is age 15 or older.
The team sets up camp on the beach right near the bandstand. Participants will want to bring along snacks and drinks and money for food and amusements, and can also pay for renting beach chairs and umbrellas. There are changing rooms and bathrooms nearby.
The coaches will specify a couple of times during the day when all participants must check in at the camp for a head count. Please be aware that the coaches are not responsible for chaperoning the kids. What the kids do is up to their own chaperones, and the unaccompanied kids ages 13 and up are on their own. Good behavior is expected from everyone to make the trip run smoothly. Typically, kids divide their time between the beach, shopping, eating, miniature golf, and the amusements at FunLand. Bringing dry clothes for the ride back is a good idea.
The trip goes on rain or shine, so please look at a weather forecast and be prepared for it.
The bus is an air-conditioned luxury bus with a video player on board. The trip takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Sometimes families are already at the beach or choose to drive separately and meet at the beach. There is a long-term parking lot available in Rehoboth with a shuttle bus to the beach.
